Air-gapped

Air-gapped is a term used in computer networking to imply a non-internet-connected computer. In the cryptocurrency world, air-gapped computing devices increase the security of digital currency wallets.

Air-gapped computers store and allow access to cryptocurrency. However, they require removable media such as USB sticks to move the digital assets from an internet-connected machine to an isolated computer.

Therefore, a successful air-gapping operation requires an online computer, an offline machine, and a USB stick. To set up the system, it’s good to purchase all new devices to reduce the chances of unknowingly using previously compromised devices. Note that air-gapping needs physical internet isolation and not firewall isolation.
